“Meet Dirk” Presented by Kroger: Tying Star Player Meet & Greets to Community Relations Initiatives


A select number of Dirk Nowitzski meet & greet hospitality packages are available through the Mavericks, by way of team sponsor Kroger and benefitting the North Texas Food Bank.


Sponsorship Buddy's Take:

1) While this may look upon initial glance like a player appearance, it is not. Obtaining a future Hall of Fame caliber veteran like Dirk for an appearance of sorts for a retail appearance is spendy if possible.  Player appearances would normally involve lesser known players. These promotions receive the best results when the sponsor aids in pushing awareness of the appearance in advance of the event or package in addition to the team's efforts.

2) Speaking of spendy, that $2,000 package price is not suited for all Mavs or Dirk fans.  It does tie in a great cause in the North Texas Food Bank, however. Being a mindful community player is a key initiative for Kroger and a promotion like this is a great way to elevate from the area competition in its efforts to do so while supporting a great local, tangible cause.

3) The assets are great, "insider" types of items that many fans (and sponsors) would love to have.  Notably, they also don't cost the team any hard-cost dollars (aside from Dirk's fee).  The fact that there are only a limited number of packages available during a finite window of time drives purchase urgency.
